Preparing your family pets for disasters and emergencies

Preparing your family pets for a disaster is important. It should be part of your family's emergency evacuation plan.

The Red Paw Emergency Relief Team is a nonprofit organization, run by firefighters, that works in conjunction with the Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management, Philadelphia Fire Department, American Red Cross, and other public and private disaster relief organizations, to provide emergency assistance including search & rescue, emergency transport, shelter, and veterinary care to animals involved in fires and other residential disasters.

Their mission is to provide relief and recovery for displaced pets and their people 24/7, to ensure ALL family members are taken care of during and after a disaster in their home.

In this episode we speak to Red Paw Emergency Relief Founder Jennifer Leary, a Philadelphia fire fighter and Red Cross emergency responder about her own experience, why she founded the organization, as well as some valuable tips for pet owners on how to best prepare their homes and pets for emergencies. It is because of the efforts of Jennifer and her team that Philadelphia pet owners can sleep a little better each night, knowing their pets will be safe.
