Mental health impacts and disasters will continue to become more important as the COVID-19 crisis continues to unfold. Disasters impact everyone psychologically in some way. Some deal with it in a proactive way, while others choose to ignore the signs.
Renae Beaumont is a Faculty member at Weill Cornell Medicine, New York Presbyterian Hospital. There, she works with her colleagues to create and evaluate new technological innovations, including virtual reality therapy to treat teen social anxiety, brain imaging and passive sensing technology to improve the detection, prevention and treatment of mental health issues in young adults.
In this episode Renae talks about some of the things all of us can do to help lesson the growing anxiety we are feeling, and the impact this increased physical and social isolation will have on our lives due to this particular disaster.
