Disaster Preparedness in the Arctic


Disaster preparedness in the Arctic brings its own set of challenges and opportunities. Rear Admiral Martin la Cour-Andersen is the Commander, Joint Arctic Command Denmark.


The mission of the Joint Arctic Command is to protect the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Denmark in the Arctic Region. Other key tasks are Maritime Pollution Prevention, fishery inspection, Search and Rescue, hydrographical surveys and support to governmental science missions, and the civil society.


The Danish Armed Forces form part of society's overall emergency readiness, which is activated during crises, disasters, and major incidents. In this episode we speak with Rear Admiral Martin la Cour-Andersen about the important work they are doing in Greenland and the Faroe Islands in the area of emergency preparedness- and the unique challenges Northern countries and communities face.
