About the Author

Leann Hackman-Carty has spent nearly 30 years in community economic development and disaster recovery, from the 2013 Alberta floods to the Fort McMurray wildfire. She received Public Safety Canada's Emergency Management Exemplary Service Award in 2018 and was named one of Canada's Most Powerful Women by WXN. She holds degrees in political science, sociology and social work, and lives in Calgary with her family.
